Elena Edwards is trained in Counselling and Psychotherapy following a career as an Education Consultant. Elena has over 20 years experience in the field including voluntary organisations, private practices, a refugee centre, NHS referral services and in student counselling. ProTherapy® is proud to have Elena on board.
Elena was initially trained as an Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapist (PgDip), she uses different approaches in her client work (Psychoanalytic, Existential/Phenomenological, CBT) to find the optimum way to address her clients’ needs and tailor the process of acceptance, healing and further growth. Elena gravitates to Existential modality and has consistently enhanced her professional skills through further professional development undertaking a diploma course at the Beck Institute, USA. Her therapeutic work is greatly informed and enhanced by her previous qualifications in Linguistics (MA) and Philosophy (PhD).
Elena has studied and worked internationally (Kiev, St Petersburg and Luxembourg), where she worked extensively with issues of diversity and cultural integration. She works with adolescents, adults and couples delivering therapy in English, Russian and Ukrainian.
Elena’s areas of expertise lie in working with depression and anxiety, loss and bereavement, marriage and relationship, trauma, parenting issues, self-esteem, work and careers, cancer and problems raised by addiction and abuse issues. Elena Edwards delivers both short-term and open-ended, long-term therapy.
Elena views therapy as a shared journey and believes in equality in therapeutic relationship. She follows the BACP ethical code of conduct.
